Youths and Generation: Investments in Future Democracies
Coordinator: Ola Stafseng, Professor, Institute of Educational Research, University of Oslo, in co-operation with ISA RC34. Research Committee on Sociology of Youth, a specialized branch of The International Sociological Association (ISA).
The aim of RC34 is to contribute to the development of theory and practice of youth sociology and youth research on an international level, uniting professional knowledge, scientific consciousness, and social commitment of its members to work on problems and issues of youth on a local, regional, and international level.
RC34 has identified three sub-themes which will be developed in work-shops where scholars meet for specific discussion related to the general topic: Youth and Generation: Investments in Future Democracies. The sub-themes are:
1) "Transforming Societies, Transforming Lives"
2) "The cultural inheritance of youth in emerging and transforming societies"
3) "Continuity and change in community and generational inheritance"
The RC34 will develop and present nine keynote papers for the conference in 2005. In addition to the solicited presentations at the conference in 2005, the thematic session will also be open for papers and posters from individual participants.
